Ingredients
- 500g store-bought or homemade gnocchi
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 400g canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
- 1 green chili, sliced (optional)
- Juice of 1/2 lime
Instructions
- Cook the gnocchi according to package directions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the garam masala, ground cumin, turmeric powder, and red chili powder to the skillet. Stir for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the sugar and salt. Lower the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld.
- Stir in the heavy cream and heat through, ensuring the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Add the cooked gnocchi to the sauce, tossing gently to coat the gnocchi evenly.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and sliced green chili, if using. Drizzle with lime juice before serving.
